Group Environmentally Conscious Design Policy

Harmonic Drive Systems Group Environmentally Conscious Design Policy

1. Purpose
The Harmonic Drive Systems Group (hereinafter referred to as “the Group”) is deeply aware of our corporate social responsibility regarding the global environment. As a group of professionals with both technical expertise and practical skills in total motion control, we strive to provide society with high-quality technologies and services that help reduce the impact on the global environment. To this end, the Group has established this Policy to ensure that environmental considerations are fully integrated from the product design and development stages and to promote the reduction of environmental impacts throughout the entire product life cycle.

2. Policy on environmentally conscious design initiatives
(1) Reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions
In designing, developing, and manufacturing products, the Group will prioritize resource and energy efficiency, actively working to reduce material and energy consumption. In addition, we will promote the implementation of functions and technologies that minimize energy and resource consumption during product use.

(2) Transition to a resource recycling-based circular economy
By enhancing product durability and improving ease of repair and maintenance, we aim to reduce waste and promote resource recycling. At the same time, we strive to promote designs that facilitate product disassembly, material separation, and reuse, minimizing environmental impact at the time of disposal.

(3) Coexistence in harmony with nature
Based on applicable laws, regulations, and customer requirements, we aim to minimize the use of hazardous chemical substances and actively explore the adoption of alternative materials, while striving to protect the health and well-being of people, including future generations, and to preserve ecosystems.

3. Methods for evaluating environmentally-conscious design
The environmental impact of products is to be assessed from the design stage using evaluation methods such as Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), with continuous improvements carried out accordingly.

4. Target setting and progress management
To advance environmentally conscious design, the Group will establish specific targets and deadlines, and will drive initiatives toward achieving these targets while regularly monitoring progress.

5. Governance and implementation structure
The Sustainability Committee, chaired by the President and Representative Director and composed of Executive Directors as members, will oversee the formulation and revision of this Policy, as well as its implementation and management across the Group.

6. Continuous review of this Policy
To effectively address environmental issues that evolve in response to societal trends and changes in the global environment, the Group will regularly review and revise the content of this Policy.

This Policy was approved by the Sustainability Committee, which is chaired by the President and Representative Director of Harmonic Drive Systems Inc.
